Note: Old Town isn’t offering the Guide 18 for the 2010 season.
With a low profile and long, flat floor, the Guide 18 is big on cargo space and shallow on draft. Available with green canvas or clear fiberglass, this canoe is designed for backcountry canoeing. The 18 is the middleweight member of Old Town’s Classic Wood Guide Family.
A full ten pounds heavier than its little brother, the Guide 18 offers the same stability and on-water maneuverability as the Guide 16, adding more capacity to the package. Intended for serious canoe trips, it may be a bit much to haul around for family use, although the extra hands for moving it on and off roof racks could be a plus. You might want to avoid portaging, but this canoe will keep you comfortable throughout your ride.
