Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel Review – When I heard about the new Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel, I couldn’t wait to review it. Bass Pro Shops is well known for making high quality reels at affordable prices, but a fishing reel under $40 is a bit of a stretch. If they were going to claim the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel to be a “professional” bass reel, I wasn’t going to make it easy with my review.

I wanted to test the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel’s ability to handle thick weeds. Nothing is more frustrating when using a new fishing reel than line snags and snarls. I cast the Tourney Special Baitcast Reel into the thickest den of weeds I could find with my trusty Daredevil red and white spoon. Daredevil spoons are notorious for snagging, so I thought it was an appropriate test for my Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel review.

The Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel handled the spoon with the greatest of ease! I couldn’t believe how well the reel housing handled the small chunks of weeds and still cast smoothly for hours. I was actually impressed so much I almost swapped the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel for my Abu Garcia. But I decided against that idea.

Here are some features of the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel:

  • – Recurve handle and star drag with a new lighter feel
  • – Ten position adjustable magnetic brake system for backlash-free casting
  • – Lightweight graphite frame with an aluminum spool
  • – Five bearing system including the patented PowerlockTM instant anti-reverse
  • – Simple thumb-bar spool release
  • – Drag Power: 12 lbs.
  • – Reel Weight: 7.8 oz.
  • – Line Capacity: 12 lbs. / 120 yds.
  • – Line Recovery: 28″ per handle turn
  • – Reel Gear ratio: 6.3:1

Overall, I was very impressed with the Bass Pro Shops Tourney Special Baitcast Reel during my review. It actually lived up to the claims, and I would defiantly suggest you test one out for yourself. Although this is the first Bass Pro Shops fishing reel that I’ve done a review for, I think there is a lot of promise in their “discount” fishing reels and I look forward to reviewing more of them in the very near future.
