Old Town Dirigo Kayak Review

Although a bit heavier than the other Old Town models, the Dirigo family of kayaks provide the stability needed without sacrificing maneuverability. A popular model for recreation and fishing, the Dirigo is packed with extras.

This kayak comes complete with a glove hatch box, cup holders, retractable carry handles and more. The cockpit is large enough to hold a parent and child, and some models have a removable child seat. The Dirigo kayak is overloaded with options, allowing you to ride in complete comfort. I give this champ a rating of 4- simply because of its heaviness. With all the options and comfort though, heaviness should be expected.

  • Uses: Recreation, fishing, beginners, quiet lakes and rivers
  • Pros: Cockpit large enough for parent and child (with removable child seat), comfortable, easy to paddle and maneuver
  • Cons: Heavy
  • Specs: 10-14 feet long and 41.5-53 lbs.
  • Approximate price range: $750-$1000
