The Old Town Penobscot family of canoes is named for the Native American Penobscot tribe and owes their design to that heritage.

The 16 RX is the lightest and smallest of the bunch. Meant for tandem or solo paddling, it has black anodized aluminum gunwales, polyethylene decks with grab handles, wood webbed seats, and an unstained ash thwart and yoke.

The RX price tag, due largely to its Royalex© construction, pays the avid canoeist back by being lighter and more durable. This can be critical during those long outings peppered with portages or trying to hoist it onto your vehicle. While it tends to tip more than a flat-bottomed canoe, the 16 RX handles well and, like all the Penobscots, tracks smoothly. Not the first choice for those new to canoes, the 16 RX is an agile and consistent boat for intermediate or experienced paddlers.
